A Wireless is a Verizon Premium Retailer with over 110 locations in eight states. Their explosive growth was taxing their email infrastructure and they needed help designing a new Microsoft Exchange solution. Wellshade worked closely with the A Wireless team to develop and deploy a secure and scalable environment that will support the thousands of users A Wireless will be adding in the future.
Something about the new Exchange 2010 installation wasn’t quite right, and at A Wireless there was an uneasy feeling that it was something that ran a little deeper than the typical problems that come with new software. A mutual friend introduced A Wireless to Wellshade and together the two companies worked to redesign the new email infrastructure. “A Wireless was planning to expand to over 300 stores, and anticipated having close to 2,000 employees,” said Joseph Rivera-Santiago, IT Infrastructure Lead. “At the time we had one Exchange 2010 box with all three roles applied to it.” The Wellshade engineers recommended compliance with Microsoft Best Practices, in this case a two-tiered implementation with a back-end server safe inside the network and a front-end server on the network’s border. This configuration provides scalability, enhances security, and would no doubt save a lot of headaches during an expansion that was projected to double the company’s size.
The existing environment ran on a single virtual server and Wellshade’s engineers spotted problems with an “out of the box” installation that a custom installation would resolve. They drew up a proposal that outlined a number of solutions to lower messaging costs by 50 to 60 percent, enable Anywhere Access to business communications and manage risk through protection and compliance capabilities. “Wellshade’s consultants were eager to jump in and take on the project head-on from Day One,” said Rivera-Santiago. The IT team at A Wireless was involved in the planning phase of the project as well as implementation, troubleshooting and training, so that when the Wellshade engineers packed up and went home, the in-house team could take over. Wellshade completed the project very quickly, working both remotely and at the client’s location in Greenville, NC. “In the event of another expansion of our Exchange environment, or in the case of a brand new implementation at another site, I would recommend Wellshade’s services first and foremost before attempting to look into other options,” said Rivera-Santiago. “Wellshade’s quality of work is second to none. The quality of work is a direct reflection of the team’s overall knowledge on extensive deployments such as ours.”
