BASF is the world's largest chemical company with sales of over $95B. They needed an application that could measure the nuances of their corporate culture to help them provide a superior work environment for their employees and foster innovation. They called Wellshade. Wellshade developed a web-based solution that could be accessed by all BASF employees. The information collected by the application provided the desired insight into their dynamic corporate culture.
BASF has a very large, dynamic workforce of about 111,000 employees at over 370 sites worldwide. Developing an understanding of their overall corporate culture was important to BASF management. With this information, they could develop action plans and corporate programs to foster innovation and team unity. Working with a local consulting firm called Smartpack, BASF developed a process that would collect the data they needed and produce the insights they wanted. The trick was how to get this process in front of their employees. They needed a technology solution so they called us.
We immediately understood that the required data gathering and reporting tool needed to be a web application. Not just any web application; it needed to support a huge amount of traffic and still be fast and easy to use. We built the tool using Ruby on Rails in order to facilitate our Rapid Development Cycle and used client-side technologies like JQuery and AJAX to ensure the user interface was responsive and easy to use. Throughout the project, we kept the client updated on our progress. We had a few unexpected challenges - there always are with a project of this size – but we completed the project on time and on budget. "Despite numerous setbacks on our side, [Wellshade] was patient and [their] attention to detail and ability to troubleshoot quickly and effectively were keys to our success" said Pryadun.
